Linda & Tommy McGuire

Linda and Tommy McGuire SweetheatsIn 1969, when Tommy was a high school senior and Linda a freshman, they met and became sweethearts. She attended his senior prom just before he left for college. Still a couple, Tommy returned in 1972 to attend Linda’s senior prom. They both graduated from Western Carolina University, Tommy with a degree in Geology, and Linda a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Tommy worked in the mines at Tennessee Copper as a raised drill foreman until the mines closed. Afterwards, he started a tree nursery on the farm. He finished out his public career as the plant manager of the Murphy Water Plant. Linda retired from teaching after 30 rewarding years. The beautiful grounds are managed by Tommy, who also handles the business paperwork to ensure that the business runs smoothly. Linda organizes the events held at the farm. Together, Tommy and Linda play an active role in every event hosted, making sure, along with their daughter, Natalie, that every detail is met with perfection.

It's a Family Affair

Tommy and Linda McguireToday, John Thomas (Tommy) and Linda run the business with their youngest daughter, Natalie and are skillfully assisted by their professional and friendly staff.

Their oldest daughter, Amanda, and her husband, Tomás, are proprietors of The Millhouse Lodge, which is conveniently located on the farm, and was built by Tomás. Tomás also built the main banquet facility, known as “The Barn,” and all of the additions to the farm, including the bridge, arbor, and entrance sign. In addition, he is playing an active role in assisting with the preservation of the Old McGuire homestead and Country Store. Amanda specializes in providing fresh floral arrangements for weddings and other events held at the barn. During the time that the banquet facility was being built, Tommy and Linda had the pleasure of hosting Amanda and Tomás’s wedding reception on the farm. For this special event, Tommy grew beautiful Indian corn, gourds, and pumpkins for their fall wedding. Amanda fondly remembers growing and selling pumpkins on the farm with her father to make money during her teenage years. Amanda and Tomás are blessed with three beautiful children who love to explore and play on the farm. Their names are John Tristen, Elizabeth Clara (Ellie), and Hannah McGuire Gebel.

Mcguires FamilyTommy and Linda’s middle daughter, Jessica, is an elementary school teacher at the local Peachtree Elementary School. Ancestors that grew up on the farm attended this very school years ago. Her husband Brent works for the NC Department of Transportation and, together, they oversee the parking and valet service. Brent is excellent with animals and maintains the bee hives that are located on the back side of the farm. He also provides hay rides for various events held at the barn. Some fond memories that Jessica has from growing up on the farm are learning to drive her daddy’s tractor and wading through the creek with her sisters. Jessica and Brent are also blessed with three beautiful children who love to explore and play on the farm. Their names are Emma Gail, Carter Reid, and Dylan Cole Adams.

Linda and Tommy’s youngest daughter, Natalie, caught the wedding planning fever from her mother. As the venue and event coordinator, it is Natalie’s job to make sure the bride has a perfect, stress‐free day, down to the last detail. Natalie and her husband Casey were also married on the farm. Casey, who received an Honorable Medical discharge from the United States Army, is now attending school full time with a goal of obtaining a degree in gunsmithing. At the farm, he assists with various guest services, setup, and maintenance. Growing up on the 110 acre farm has given Natalie a treasure trove of memories. From her first kiss to her first time behind the wheel of a car, the farm has always been the backdrop to many cherished moments. She recalls her parents purchasing the horses, playing with newborn kittens in the red barn, and watching her parents’ dream, “The Barn” (the main banquet facility), being built.

Natalie McGuire Gibbs

Natalie Gibbs - Mcguires Millrace FarmFascinated by the wedding business, at age 13, Natalie started helping her mom, Linda, with the family business.
